    2007 So Far!

2007 is the year of the pig and yes I am a pig. Each year I decide on a philosophy for that year, last year was ‘Be true to myself’ and this year “It’s my year” Determined to make the most of every opportunity and enjoy every minute.

Well I have to say the start has been wonderful!  A hat trick, three wins from three comps and don’t you think I am pretty happy and full of myself. hehe

First one - The All States Amateur show which was held in conjunction with the IFBB Australian Grand Prix show, where I won the women’s bodybuilding section.

Then a week later I flew off to Adelaide South Australia for the World Police & Fire Games.

Adelaide was invaded by thousands of people mainly men (so many men so little time) from countries all around the world. Check out all the results, photos and the medal tally at

The World Police Fire Games are held in a different country every two years; it is one of the world’s largest mass-participation events, eclipsing the Commonwealth Games in terms of competitor and sport numbers

With 79 sporting events (which included Bodybuilding) the local firefighters and law enforcement officers take on competitors from all around the world. While the Games are all about participation, the competition is tough and spirited with Commonwealth and Olympic athletes, world champions and other elite athletes vying for medals.

Must admit I was a little bit noticed, could have been the funny color of my skin, or the blonde hair but I think it was the muscles, spent a lot of the time having photos taken.

We were pumping up at 8.30am on stage just after 9am. Then we had to wait till 5pm for the night show, which was ridiculous, by the time we got on stage around 6pm we were all exhausted.
I won my class which I was really happy about, but then as we were going on stage for the night show we were told – ‘oh by the way if you win your class please stay back for the overall’  for Christ sakes, why weren't we told that like 8 hours ago.  Unfortunately I didn't win the overall, but nothing was going to dampen my whole time there.

Then came the partying! What happens on the trip stays on the trip.

The next competition was the 2007 Australasian titles on April 29th some 6 weeks later. I was struggling to hold any weight so I emailed my good friend Charlie Duca, 3 x Mr. World and IFBB Aussie Pro, “Charlie HELP!”  For the first time ever in all these years I asked for help and I can't Thank Charlie enought, He rewrote my diet and training; it took about 2 weeks for me to get my head the changes.

    Reduce cardio in half.

Less weight even more reps, but training in the gym was finished in record time and I didn’t feel like I had done anything, (didn’t feel like that towards the end though)

Steak and red wine for dinner?

Well it worked I got to the show, fuller upper body and harder legs, hooray.

The IFBB Australasian title is a big show with New Zealand and Aussie bodybuilders going head to head. This year there was an added bonus of the introduction of the new Elite class, where $10,000 prize money was distributed. Okay it was only for the men, usual thing forget the women!

Gary and I headed off to Sydney at the usual 5.30am departure, why? Who knows why I booked a 7am flight.  On arriving at Sydney we were delayed a little when I couldn’t find my bag at pickup. Mind you it was the only large red suitcase left going around and around but I was sure it wasn’t mine, until Gary pointed out on its third rotation the ID. Opps!

As far as shows go all went ok, the usual mishaps, wrong music, lost competitors and time delays were experienced. I won my class and I didn’t care what else happened.

The Elite class saw the return to the stage of many Australian past champions together with a few new ones. Including Neil Gardner who handed back his IFBB Pro card so as he could compete in the Elite class.

The top three - Third a very impressive Victor, in second place Mick Scionti, with the winner of the Elite bodybuilding class Con Demetriou.  Watch out world I predict Con to be our next Pro bodybuilder; he told me “When I am good enough”

Con has not only one of the most beautiful symmetrically muscular bodies, he is genuinely a really nice guy and so good looking I melt each time I see or have to speak to him.  He is a four times Australian Bodybuilding Champion and personal trainer to many high profile clients including th late Princess Diana. Check him out at www.australianbodysculpt.com.au

On the flight home the crew of Virgin Blue airlines were totally intrigued with the overly brown blonde carrying a big gold trophy. We were asked to stay back after the plane landed for photos with the crew. Just so happened I was wearing my favorite singlet top. see pictures.
